THE POLAR EXPRESS™ at the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad

Get ready for a magical journey as The Polar Express™ Train Ride returns on November 9th! Experience the enchantment of the holiday season with a recreation of the classic story. Board our powerful locomotives at Bryson City Depot, bound for the North Pole to pick up Santa Claus himself. As you arrive at our depot, immerse yourself in the story with our chefs serving hot chocolate and sweet treats, accompanied by joyful singing and dancing all the way to the Pole! On the return trip to Bryson City, Santa will visit each coach, personally handing out the first gift of Christmas to every passenger.

THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride, inspired by Chris Van Allsburg's award-winning book and the 2003 film adaptation, is a timeless Christmas Eve journey that comes to life each year. All ages can revel in the warmth and joy of the Christmas season aboard a special steam train bound for the North Pole. Secure your preferred seating by booking soon, as certain dates and car types are sure to sell out quickly!

What to expect on The Polar Express™: The 1¼ hour round-trip passenger excursion takes you through the quiet wilderness, set to the sounds of the beloved motion picture soundtrack. Guests will enjoy warm cocoa and treats while listening and reading along with the magical story. Witness the magic on children's faces as the train arrives at the North Pole, where Santa Claus awaits. Santa boards THE POLAR EXPRESS™, greeting each child and presenting them with a special gift – their very own silver sleigh bell, just like in the story. Christmas carols will fill the air as they return to the Bryson City Depot, making it a journey filled with joy, wonder, and the true spirit of the season.
