Experience an unforgettable summer evening at the 8th Annual Great Smoky Mountains Hot Air Balloon Festival in beautiful Townsend, Tennessee. Set against a breathtaking Smoky Mountain sunset, colorful hot air balloons will inflate across the festival grounds before illuminating the evening with a spectacular balloon glow. Tethered balloon rides will also be offered when weather conditions permit.
This family-friendly festival offers something for visitors of all ages, including activities for children, live entertainment, demonstrating artists and crafters, local vendors, a food truck court and a beer tent. Guests can explore the festival grounds, enjoy delicious food and capture incredible photos as the balloons light up the Townsend sky.
Adults can upgrade their experience with the separately ticketed Sip TN Wine Experience, featuring samples of Tennessee wines, hard ciders and meads from participating producers. A valid photo ID is required, and attendees must be at least 21 years old. A premium VIP experience is also planned, with a tethered balloon ride, catered meal, beverages, commemorative merchandise and access to a private tented area.
The festival is also an annual fundraiser supporting local community programs. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Townsend Volunteer Fire Department and Townsend Elementary School.
Tickets and Parking
General admission is currently listed at $7 per person, with free admission for children ages 12 and younger. Prepaid parking at the festival grounds is listed at $20 per vehicle. Tickets for balloon rides, the Sip TN Wine Experience and VIP admission may require an additional purchase.
The festival will take place rain or shine. Balloon inflation, tethered rides and other balloon activities are weather-dependent and will proceed only when the Balloon Meister determines conditions are safe. The balloons remain tethered and do not launch for free-flight trips.
